Blue Palm Card Could Fool

Blue Card voting slate “not from us – throw it out” – – PBC Democratic Party chair tells supporters.

A  “Palm Card” called “The Blue Card 2014 Voting Slate” could fool recipients into thinking that some Republican candidates are  endorsed by the Democratic Party, warned Terrie Rizzo, chair of the Palm Beach County Democratic Party.

“In Palm Beach County, [the card] appears to be specifically targeting Maria Sachs, our candidate for State Senator (District 34) and Andy O’Brien, our candidate for County Commissioner (District 4),” Rizzo wrote in a party email alert.

“The cards are blue in color, sent by something called ‘The Democracy Project.’ The Democracy Project is the brainchild of a Broward County-based political strategist who has used the same technique in prior years to influence voters,” Rizzo wrote.

The Blue Card lists legitimate Democratic candidates in other races, but for Sachs’ and O’Brien’s districts, it lists their Republican opponents instead (Ellyn Bogdanoff and Steven Abrams respectively).

“They are not from us. Throw them out,” Rizzo advised. “To us, the purpose of these Palm Cards seems to be to confuse Democratic voters into voting for Republican candidates.”

A “Palm Card” references a campaign handout that is small enough to press into the hands of supporters, and is used often by candidates in face-to-face contact at events.
