UPDATE: THE COUNTY HAS CANCELED THE JAN. 9 ROUNDTABLE ON THE AG RESERVE. See http://242.733.myftpupload.com/2014/news/ag-reserve-meetings-postponed-again/

Due to unforeseen conflicts, the December 17th Agricultural Reserve Roundtable has been rescheduled. The new meeting information is:

Friday, January 9th
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (or earlier)
(doors open at 8:30)
Clayton Hutcheson Center
Exhibit Halls A & B
559 N. Military Trail,
West Palm Beach, Florida 33415

The Agricultural Reserve is established in the Future Land Use Element of the Comprehensive Plan, under Objective 1.5. The purpose of the Agricultural Reserve is to preserve unique farmland and wetlands in order to enhance agricultural activity, environmental and water resources, and open space, by limiting uses to agriculture, conservation, low density residential development, and non-residential uses which serve the needs of farmworkers and residents of the Ag Reserve Tier.

As promised at the September 29th Roundtable, this meeting will include staff’s assessment of the potential impacts of the proposals and concepts discussed at the Roundtable, and will include an opportunity for additional public input. The meeting will again be professionally facilitated by John Streitmatter of the Leadership Research Institute, and notice of the meeting is being provided to all identified Agricultural Reserve interested parties.

A workshop session with the Board of County Commissioners is scheduled for March 2015, at which the results of the Roundtable process will be presented.

The specifics of the meeting format and agenda are currently being determined in conjunction with the facilitator. Once finalized, an agenda outlining the meeting format will be posted on the Planning Division website: http://www.pbcgov.com/pzb/Planning/ag_reserve/ag_reserve.htm. For your information, the facilitator’s summary of the September 29th Roundtable, as well as an audio recording, can also be found on the Planning Division website.

Interest group representatives who participated at the September Roundtable should anticipate participating in a similar capacity at the January meeting. Any specific instructions for these representatives will be provided by the facilitator. If you served as an interest group representative at the September Roundtable, but will be unable to participate on January 9th, please contact staff as soon as possible.

Second, to facilitate discussion at the January 9th meeting, staff will be conducting two technical sessions in advance of that meeting. Both sessions will cover the same topics. Attendance at these sessions is not required, but the sessions will include presentation of staff’s analysis, and will allow any interested parties the opportunity to fully review and understand the assumptions and analysis process used. The analysis will also be presented at the January 9th meeting. The two technical sessions are scheduled as follows:

Wednesday, December 17th
9:30 – 11:30 a.m. OR Friday, December 19th
1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
