Full page photoThe mayor of Delray Beach is inviting citizens to an “informal forum” early evening Thursday August 13, 6 to 8 p.m. for feedback on the proposed location of an iPic theater. The forum will be held at the Delray Beach Public Library, 100 West Atlantic Avenue (main library meeting room).

Delray Beach’s planning and zoning board gave a thumbs down to the iPic plan for Delray Beach on July 20.

The proposed “IPic Theater, known as “Fourth and Fifth Delray,” is a proposed mixed use commercial development that includes a movie theatre, retail, and office space located between SE 5th Avenue and SE 4th Avenue, south of Atlantic Avenue.

“It’s a complex/parking and traffic fiasco,” said a resident prominent among the many who feel the theater is the wrong project in the wrong place. “As we all know, our presence counts and especially when it is invited! If you are unable to be there,  send a letter to the mayor of Delray Beach.”

Mayor Cary Glickstein’s email is: [email protected].

The iPic development has drawn intense objections from residents concerned about more traffic and parking congestion. Citizens are upset that the developers’ plan includes the elimination of  a roadway motorists use as an alternate relief route to the often stop-and-go traffic on Atlantic Avenue. Many residents also say the luxury movie destination does not fit in with their community or the city’s promoted identity as a “Village by the Sea.”
